Why Winter Is the Best Time to Recoat Your RV Roof

Your RV sits parked all winter anyway. That makes it the perfect time to fix the roof, before it leaks on your first trip of the year.

Why RV Roofs Leak

RV roofs take a beating. Summer sun dries out the sealant, winter snow sits on the seams and every mile on the road shakes the roof a little. Over time, small cracks open up around vents, skylights, edges and seams. Water finds them fast.

By the time you see a stain on the ceiling, water may have been getting in for a while. That can mean soft spots, rot and expensive repairs.

Signs Your RV Roof Needs Attention

  • Cracked or peeling sealant around vents, skylights or the edges

  • A chalky, faded or worn roof surface

  • Soft or spongy spots on the roof

  • Water stains on the ceiling or walls inside

  • Rust on a metal roof

  • A musty smell after it rains

Why Winter Is the Best Time

Most RVs sit from fall to spring. Recoating during that time means you don't lose a single camping weekend.

The catch is the weather. Coatings need dry conditions and the right temperature to cure, and that's hard to find outside in a Spokane winter. That's why we coat RVs inside our heated shop. Bring it in, we'll seal it up, and it's ready when camping season starts.

How We Coat an RV Roof

We start by looking over the whole roof and showing you what we find. Then we:

  • Wash the roof and fix every problem we find, including open seams, worn sealant and penetrations

  • Mask and prime so the coating bonds

  • Apply an acrylic or silicone coating system matched to your roof

We coat nearly every type of RV roof, including metal, rubber, TPO and PVC. If your roof already has a coating, we can recoat it.

Mobile Home Roofs Too

Mobile home roofs leak for a lot of the same reasons RV roofs do, and we coat them right where they sit. Learn more on our Mobile Home & RV Roof Coatings page.
